Small range eddy current sensor gives high performance

Micro-Epsilon UK has extended its eddyNCDT 3001 series of compact eddy current sensors, with a 2mm measuring range option giving a resolution of 4µm.

Although the eddyNCDT 3001 sensor is similar in size to a typical proximity or inductive sensor, its measuring performance is claimed to be greater, making it suitable for OEM displacement, distance and position measurement applications.

Available in a compact M12 design, the sensors are protected to IP67 and so are suitable for a range of applications including automation, machine building and systems integration. The sensors are particularly suitable for medium-to-high volume OEM applications.

All conditioning electronics on the eddyNCDT 3001 eddy current sensor are completely integrated into the sensor housing. The sensor's temperature-compensated electronics provides a measurement stability of 0.03% full scale output, even in fluctuating ambient temperatures.

The eddyNCDT 3001 is factory-calibrated for both ferrous and non-ferromagnetic materials, eliminating the need for onsite calibration. The robust sensor design is said to enable measurements in harsh industrial environments including oil, pressure, dirt and dust, as well as for offshore and marine applications, as the sensor is also saltwater-resistant. It has a measuring range of 2mm or 4mm and a frequency response of 5kHz and a temperature compensation range from 0°C to 70°C.
