The zig zag installation is achieved by reversing the links of the energy chain which then creates a fold. This can be done several times, depending on the length of the energy chain and the space required. Once retracted, the system becomes very compact and the housed cables are protected in a basket with a minimum bend radius enforced by the energy chain.
The energy chains also ensure good separation and strain relief of the cables while the zigzag system is in motion.
