How robolink can help you automate simple tasks cost-effectively

Our robolink range of articulated robotic arms is prominent in igus’ low-cost automation business. The modular system enables our customers to automate simple tasks and processes. These include pick and place applications in order picking, feeding, quality assurance, assembly tasks or image processing applications.

3D printing in seconds

Researchers from Switzerland’s Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) say they have developed a completely new way of creating small 3D, soft objects that offer remarkable resolution “in a matter of seconds”.

What are the drylin SHT options for extreme environments?

In this week’s video we present some of the available options for the drylin SHT stainless steel leadscrew module. Made of 304 grade stainless steel, also known as V2A, the drylin SHT-SS is ideal for use in the food and beverage industry, as well as high temperature applications.

How energy chain systems are proven reliable for long travels

For operators of sewage plants, waste incineration plants, cranes, power plants or mines, one of the greatest challenges is to guide power, data and hydraulics safely on long travels. Conventional energy supply systems, including motor cable drums, busbars and festoons, have their limitations, particularly when operating at high speeds with a heavy fill weight. An alternative is to use energy chain systems from igus, which are tested over long distances at its automated test facility.

How vessels at new container terminals connect to shore power

Solutions that improve efficiency when handling bulk cargo from increasing vessel sizes are all the more essential when speed and fast turnarounds are needed. Does traditional, stationary shore power fit into this picture? What do shore power connections look like for new terminals?

We are seeking smart and cost-effective automation solutions

What innovative ideas do you have to automate your business? This week’s video invites you to enter the 2020 ROIBOT awards for clever return-on-investment ideas with robots. drylin delta robots, drylin linear robots or articulated robolink robotic arms from igus make low-cost automation possible. Enter for a chance to win up to €5000 in prize money plus an invitation to the award ceremony at automatica, the leading exhibition for smart automation and robotics, which is held in Munich 16-19 June 2020.

Smash-proof, all-metal guitar set to rock EDS

Global engineering group Sandvik will showcase its cutting-edge 3D-printed stainless-steel guitar at the Engineering Design Show (EDS) in two weeks’ time, on 16 October 2019 in Coventry.

How to guide multiple cables securely for 200 full turns

The igus twisterband range has further extended its reach by providing compact horizontal rotations of up to 7000°, which is nearly 200 full-turns, and vertical rotations of 3000°. At speeds of up to 180°/sec, that is 30 full-turns in a minute. Made from lightweight, yet tough, advanced engineering polymers, twisterband HD features a strong pinned connection between each of its links for a longer service life.

How to manage cables and hoses at great heights

In this week’s video, we see the new igus extra-long e-spool cable management system being put through its paces. With a slip-ring-free cable drum, the compact system can safely guide power, audio, bus and fibre optic cables and even hoses together in one system. Now the e-spool is available for travel lengths of up to 21 metres with either spring- or motor-driven retraction options.

How new energy chain was inspired by nature and designed for industry

This week’s video introduces the new E4Q energy chain from igus for unsupported and long travels. The chain links of the e-chain have a pebble-shaped design for weight reduction and a completely new crossbar locking mechanism, which enables the energy chain to be opened by hand, in seconds.

How to manage cables and hoses safely on cherry pickers

igus has developed its first plastic-steel hybrid energy chain for extending applications, such as cherry pickers, telehandlers and boom lifts. Compared to conventional steel energy chains, which are sometimes used in these applications, the new YE.42 e-chain is 50% lighter. It also provides up to 10m unsupported travel, which is 50% more than for plastic energy chains.

How e-loop energy chain provides safe cable management for top drives

Replacing conventional service loops for top drive systems on drilling rigs, the new e-loop energy chain provides safe cable management even in adverse weather conditions. The new modular system, which is made of high-performance plastic, ensures a defined minimum bend radius of the cables and provides strain relief.

How drylin Q sliding plates offer excellent tolerance adjustment

In this week’s video we find out how the tolerance of fixture, positioning and measuring systems is compensated by a clever adjustment mechanism. Called drylin Q, the manually adjustable sliding plates are used for lifting column applications as varied as square tube-in-tube adjustment mechanisms, U profiles and low profiles. Made of the high-performance iglidur J plastic, the sliding plates are lubrication-free and, more importantly, maintenance-free.

igus drylin delta robot coming to a location near you

drylin delta robot is now on tour; there are live performances at business venues up and down the UK and Ireland, from Aberdeen to Bristol and Dublin to Galway. Last week our skilled engineers toured Yorkshire and Leeds, demonstrating the drylin delta robot as a low-cost automation solution for repetitive tasks, such as pick and place, simple assembly, and inspection tasks. In July, the drylin 2019 tour will be in the South West, East Anglia, and the West Midlands.

How to manage multiple cables at great heights for stage and theatre

In this week’s video, Justin Leonard, the-chain director at igus, invites viewers to this year’s ABTT Theatre Show. Taking place on 5th and 6th June at Alexandra Palace, the show highlights all things relating to live performance technology in the world of theatre, events, festivals, sport, film and TV. During the show, igus will be displaying its bearing and cable management systems for the theatre and stage industry at Stand L2.

How igus ball transfer units move high loads easily

igus ball transfer units designed for use on conveyor tables transport delicate or heavy goods in multiple directions. Made of the high-performance plastic xirodur B180, they can absorb loads of up to 500 N. Stainless steel balls inside the roller allow smooth running.

How dryspin technology runs smoothly and efficiently on high helix threads

The high helix thread design from igus is optimised to achieve greater efficiency compared to standard threads due to its flatter angle. The asymmetric geometry also yields a long service life and, because of the round tooth profile, operation is quiet and vibration-free. Available in stainless steel, the leadscrew is corrosion resistant, FDA approved and offers high level stiffness. For lightweight applications, the tribo-optimised, hard anodised aluminium version is non-magnetic.
