$20,000 offered for design innovations

The eighth 2010 "Create the Future" design contest offers a grand prize of $20,000 and an opportunity to air entry designs on the Web, free of charge.

Entries can be from individuals or teams in any of six categories: Consumer Products, Machinery and Equipment, Medical, Safety and Security, Sustainable Technologies and Transportation. The contest is sponsored by COMSOL, PTC, and Tech Briefs Media Group, which publishes NASA Tech Briefs, an online publication that is free to anyone who cares to subscribe to it. Prizes will also be awarded for the top entry in each category, and for the ten most popular entries as voted on by Web site registrants. All qualified entrants will be included in a drawing for NASA Tech Briefs T-shirts, and the winning entries will be featured in a special supplement to NASA Tech Briefs magazine. The Top 100 entries overall, as determined by an industry panel of judges, will receive a certificate of achievement suitable for framing. Previous grand prizes have gone to: a low-friction gear set for electric vehicles; a portable, noninvasive bone and joint damage detection device; an improved fastening system for orthopedic splints and casts; a low-cost in-vehicle emergency warning device; an integrated motor/fluid pump that reduces size and weight while increasing performance; a new long-lasting light source material for safety applications; and a life-saving device that makes CPR easy and safe for anyone to perform. Closing time for entries is 11:59 pm US Eastern Time on June 30th , 2010. Complete information and an official entry form can be found at http://www.createthefuture2010.com
