Audi's Swarm concept set to reinvent the humble brake light

Looking to bring the humble brake light into the 21st Century, Audi has created an innovative oled (organic light emitting diode) display that would run along the rear of a car to inform other drivers of its movements.

The concept, called Swarm, gets its name because the display features innumerable small points of light that flicker like a swarm of fish. The idea is that the swooping, fluid animations displayed will relay all sorts of useful information to other drivers. When a right turn is made, the red dots flow to the right; when the car brakes, they flow rapidly forwards. The higher the speed, the faster they move. Audi says the technology will be "as intelligent as it is attractive" – but many argue that it will simply distract drivers and cause more accidents. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
