Award given to Schaeffler's Roger Evans

Roger Evans MBE, managing director at Schaeffler (UK), has been chosen by his peers to receive the national Manufacturing Champion Award.

The award celebrates the achievements of individuals who, through vision, dedication, hard work and tireless involvement, have made a significant contribution to UK manufacturing. Evans was presented the award at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London on 15th April 2015.

The judges awarded the highly coveted title after agreeing that Roger shows leadership, encourages innovation, invests in research and development, builds partnerships with suppliers, trains employees to high standards and generates profits to guarantee security.

As well as managing the day-to-day operations of the Schaeffler UK manufacturing plant in Llanelli from 2001 to March 2014, Mr Evans has also been instrumental in formulating and driving forward a manufacturing strategy in Wales. Schaeffler UK's manufacturing plant in Llanelli, South Wales produces precision engine components including general bearings and mechanical tappets for the automotive industry.

Roger Evans MBE commented: "Manufacturing is a dynamic and exciting sector full of people who are passionate and committed to what they do. To be recognised in this way is therefore a tremendous honour. I am absolutely delighted as much for my hard-working team as for myself, as without their commitment and support this achievement would not have been possible."
