Cambridge Consultants unveils auto-injector concept
A novel auto-injector concept for improved drug delivery has been unveiled by Cambridge Consultants.
Dubbed Flexi-ject, the new system measures just 11cm long and simply requires the user to press the device against their skin to deliver a 1ml dose of drug, rather than having to simultaneously hold it in the correct position and press a button.
The Flexi-ject features a newly developed mechanical trigger mechanism and a novel flexible primary pack called Fleximed, which was developed by high barrier tubes manufacturer Neopac. It is said to be significantly more compact than existing auto-injectors and easier to use.

As well as giving patients the ability to change the needle depth, the new system has been designed to be re-used with an individually pre-packed drug dose so that waste can be minimised. It is being demonstrated for the first time at the PDA Europe conference in Basel on 8-9 November 2011.
