Don’t read this...go to EDS!

Day one of the Engineering Design Show saw over 2000 engineers attend the exhibition and conference.

The event is taking place at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry and continues today (Thursday 22nd October).

One of the early highlights on the first day was the conference keynote, given by Andy Claughton, technical director of Land Rover BAR, who described how his team are engineering the boat that Ben Ainslie hopes to skipper to America’s Cup glory in 2017.

Other fascinating presentations covered the use of composites to produce Guy Martin’s ‘Speed’ bikes and sleds and the development of Airlander, a new form of airship that is shortly to take to the skies.

Those who are reading this early could still make it for the day two keynote describing from Williams Advanced Engineering, talking about how Formula 1 technology is being deployed in Formula E and is trickling through to the automotive sector. This session starts at 9.15.

Other highlights will be the material technology behind the Solar Impulse – the round the world aeroplane fuelled only by solar power, the design of an all new eco-car and why space engineering is taking off.

There is also over 200 exhibitors, a full workshop programme, an Innovation Zone and attendees can earn CPD points at the IED approved conference and workshop sessions.

There is still time to make it.......
