Encouraging engineers to pass on their expertise

A new initiative encourages engineers to pass on their experience to others

Pass on Your Skills, launched by Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK), aims to encourage engineers to become teachers, tutors or trainers in the Further Education (FE) sector. Saskia Coplans, project manager for Pass on Your Skills said: "Many professionals in the engineering sector have experience and expertise which could help train the workforce of the future. They can choose whether to get involved full time or even just a couple of hours a week." According to the recent 'Bridging the Skills Gap' report, 20,000 jobs within the engineering sector remain unfulfilled, and 71% of companies face problems hiring experienced staff. A number of free courses will help engineers to learn the necessary skills. The move follows a pilot scheme that recruited and trained construction professionals to teach in the FE sector.
