RS DesignSpark launches podcast: Mission Responsible

DesignSpark, RS Group’s fast-growing online community for engineers, is announcing the launch of a new podcast series: Mission Responsible. Co-hosted by engineer and broadcaster, Dr Shini Somara, and physicist, Dr Simon Clark, the series explores how responsible engineering can accelerate the journey to making a better world.

The DesignSpark community platform supports students, pro-creators and professional engineers with the design tools, knowledge and resources they need to innovate responsibly and ignite the extraordinary.

The new podcast series will see Drs Shini Somara and Simon Clarke shine a light on the revolutionary inventions helping the charge towards a better planet – from Mumbli, a hearing wellness company, looking  to support people with hearing challenges and combat noise pollution, to ESA's Clean Space Initiative, which explores how engineering can clean up the skies and space.

Episode One, which launches on 18 February as part of Engineers Week, investigates the issue of e-waste and meets pioneering engineering community Team Repair, urging people to fix, not nix, their household gadgets.

Dr Shini Somara, co-host of Mission Responsible: “Engineers are innately curious and in my opinion, silent super heroes! The innovators we’ve met for Mission Responsible highlight the variety of smart solutions out there, designed to solve some of society’s most pressing problems.”

Dr Simon Clark, co-host of Mission Responsible: "Many of today’s most revolutionary ideas are born through spontaneous innovation, whether that's a lightbulb moment in the university lab, design studio or workshop floor. That’s why I’m particularly excited about the podcast’s potential to inspire STEM students to take their ideas to the next level.”

Mike Bray, Innovation Lead for the RS Group: “DesignSpark is a talented, global community of over 1.4 million qualified engineers, engineering students and specialist companies. With Mission Responsible we want to raise awareness of the critical role they play in driving change and encourage the collaboration required to accelerate it.”
