Vehicle to carry soldiers kit

BAE Systems are developing an all terrain vehicle that can be remotely operated to carry equipment for British soldiers.

Frontline soldiers often need to carry 80 to 100lbs of equipment in to battle which seriously limits their mobility and range, as well creating larger targets for the enemy. And, there is a constant pressure to be able to carry even more. As a result, BAE Systems has developed the Multi Operated All Terrain Vehicle (MOATV). The six wheeled vehicle was on display at last week's Defence Systems and Equipment International 2009 exhibition and can be used in a number of modes. As well as being driven in a conventional way, it can be controlled by a soldier on the ground, using a hand held PDA, or be made fully autonomous. It can also be made to follow a soldier operating it.
