Robot Ethics: Personal Perspectives

London

The future promises us robot (driverless) cars, robots in the home, social care robots, robots for military use and robots with human traits. How do we ensure they are designed, used and operate within accepted ethical norms?

Following the success of previous events held by the IET Robotics and Mechatronics Network in association with the Science Museum Lates, this year's event will continue the theme of Robot Ethics and expand into new areas.

As robotics and robotic devices become ever more commonplace in our lives the questions arising from interactions between new machine and individual people, and society as a whole, are set to become increasingly complex. The future promises us robot (driverless) cars, robots in the home, social care robots, robots for military use and robots with human traits. How do we ensure they are designed, used and operated within accepted ethical norms?

This event invites three renowned and expert speakers to present their personal view on the problems in ethics arising from the design, use, integration and eventually even within the "personality" of the robot. Each speaker will talk for 15-20 minutes. A panel discussion with questions from the audience will follow.
