Check valve ideal for medical luer adaptors

Dean Palmer reports on a new, miniature check valve that looks ideally suited to critical flow control medical applications

A new, 2.5mm check valve which can be installed into a Luer adaptor and is ideally suited to critical flow control medical applications, has been developed by miniature fluid control specialist firm Lee Products. The check valves can be integrated into high volume, automated assembly lines and, according to the company, the valves "provide a cost effective alternative to in-house check or relief valves". The valve is designed for both liquid and gas applications and they are 100% flow tested on air. The company also stresses that the valve's "high quality hard seat design feature" limits leakage in the checked direction to no more than 20 sccm of air at 172 kPa (25psi) differential. Other features include cracking pressures from 2 to 50 psid, bi-directional installation and a fully-open Lohm rate of 750 Lohms, which is equivalent to an orifice of 0.8mm diameter. The check valves, which would normally be disposed of after use in medical applications, benefit from an all-stainless steel construction and a luer adaptor which is made from a medical grade polypropylene. The valves are supplied pre-assembled for easy installation and handling and are compatible with most hydraulic fluids, brake fluids, oils, fuels and gases.
