Rotary to linear motion control

With lead screws and nuts, whenever you convert a directional motion from one type to another, it is the accuracy and the efficiency of how that motion is transferred, is the key to optimum machine design.

Whenever you convert a motion from one type to another, it is the accuracy and the efficiency in which that the motion is transferred is the key to optimum design. When using lead screw and nuts, the driven end invariably involves an electric motor and some form of positional feedback device, which can provide exceptional rotary position registration. When the torque of the motor is applied to the screw, regardless of nut design, the positional accuracy can be compromised by the lead error due to poor manufacturing and control. (Typical lead errors are+/- .1mm per 300mm of travel for a standard lead screw or +/-0.07mm per 300mm of travel for precision). Then the amount of free play (backlash) in the radial and linear axis from the fit of the nut to the lead screw will also add to the deviational error. This is where you rely heavily on the technical understanding of the manufacturers ability to supply consistent product accuracy in both screw and nut combinations.

ABSSAC offers manufacturing services for complete turn-key lead screw assemblies to your specifications. Precision CNC machining services transform our standard thread products into your proprietary designs which are ready to fit directly into your linear designs with the confidence of minimised deviational error. Abssac also welcomes replication work where the customer may have an old acme screw that needs replacing but have no technical drawing specifications to work from. ABSSAC is in the unique position of being able to supply special types of thread forms that meet exact customer requirements and are well known as a linear solution provider. Many of their lead screw and nut combinations have been successfully used in applications around the world. Where ABSSAC is different is that should an application require a specific thread form with a particular lead (or pitch) they are capable of assisting you with that leadscrew assembly design and also provide first article inspection if necessary. ABSSAC’s engineering staff have well over 35 years of experience and can offer cold rolled formed threads as well as machined variants.
