In this 60-minute COMSOL-sponsored webinar, review the basic operation of a packed bed reactor and how it provides a so-called bimodal pore size distribution. Consider how, traditionally, reactions of this type of bimodal porous structure are modelled using semi-analytical approximations, such as Thiele’s modulus and efficiency factor approximations. However, these approximations are limiting. The webinar goes on to discuss a numerical approach by describing the catalytic reactions in bimodal porous structures, which are simple to define. In addition, they can be solved with a minimum number of approximations for complex reaction kinetic expressions. You’ll understand how this method considers the time-dependent behaviour of both the transport processes and reaction kinetics within the microporous structure. See a live demonstration of how to use this approach to modelling packed bed reactors in the COMSOL software. Bring your questions.
