Meet Sayer, the steering wheel of the future

Jaguar Land Rover will reveal its intelligent and connected steering wheel of the future, Sayer, during the inaugural Tech Fest at Central St Martins art, design and technology college in London, held between 8 and 10 September 2017.

The concept steering wheel is designed to live in your home and will act like Amazon’s Echo, Apple’s Siri or Microsoft’s Cortana. Sayer, named after one of the most prominent designers from Jaguar’s past, Malcolm Sayer, is said to be the first voice-activated artificial intelligence steering wheel that will be able to carry out hundreds of tasks. For example, it could enable membership of Jaguar’s proposed on-demand service club, which offers either sole ownership or the option of sharing the car with others in your community.

Need to be at a meeting two hours away from home by 8am tomorrow? Simply ask Sayer from the comfort of your living room and it will work out when you need to get up, when a car needs to autonomously arrive at your door and even advise which parts of the journey you might enjoy driving yourself.

Jaguar Land Rover’s vision of the future of autonomous, connected and electric cars where people don’t own a car, but instead call upon the vehicle of your choice where and when you need it. This means that, rather than doing away with the steering wheel altogether like other autonomous and connected car designs, Sayer could be the only part of the car you ever own.
