Absolute encoders certified for explosive atmospheres

Supplied through McLennan, Leine & Linde has introduced ATEX and IECEx certified absolute encoders, suitable for demanding on and offshore applications. The flameproof protection permits the encoders to be used in areas where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur during normal operation.

Based on heavy-duty 900 series, the multi-turn encoders are fully sealed and have high resilience to shock and vibration. The certification covers both gas (Ex d) and dust (Ex t) groups in Ex zones 1/21.

Heavy duty bearings are said to ensure high stiffness for axial and radial shaft loads and IP67 ingress protection as well as an all stainless steel housing construction claimed to provide corrosion-free safeguarding for marine environments. The nominal size of the encoder is 58mm in diameter and 80mm in length with both solid and hollow shaft options available.

To facilitate application flexibility, interfacing for the 900 series includes PROFIBUS, PROFINET, CANopen, DeviceNet, SSI and Endat.Connection options include Ex-certified cable glands and connectors.
